Manoah’s leave in Illinois is effective as of May 30. After missing the season’s first five games due to shoulder pain, he is 1-2 with a 3.70 ERA in five starts.
Manoah noted following Wednesday’s victory against Chicago that his elbow initially started to hurt during last Friday’s 6-2 loss to Detroit.
In 2022, Manoah emerged as a breakout player for Toronto, going 16-7 in 31 starts with a 2.24 ERA. In the AL Cy Young Award voting, he placed third and was selected to the AL All-Star squad.
The large right-hander had a rough season in 2018, going 3-9 with a 5.87 ERA in 19 starts and twice getting optioned to the minors.
Alek Manoah, a right-hander with the Toronto Blue Jays, abandoned a start against the White Sox after 1 2/3 innings on Friday due to a damaged elbow. Two days prior, the player was placed on the 15-day injured list.
Additionally on Friday, the Blue Jays added right-hander Ryan Burr to their roster by exchanging him for cash from Philadelphia. Burr spent 15 games in Triple-A Lehigh Valley, going 2-1 with a 2.16 ERA.
Joel Kuhnel, a right-hander at Triple-A, was designated for assignment in order to create space on the 40-man roster.
