All offseason, the question of who the Las Vegas Raiders will select in the first round of the upcoming draft next month has been hanging over us, and we probably won’t find out until that Thursday, April 25. The Raiders have a few options, and Raider Nation seems to think that the quarterback position is one of them. J.J. McCarthy is one of those elite quarterback prospects; Raiders Hall of Famer Charles Woodson supports him.
Woodson, of course, is a former Michigan Wolverine, just like McCarthy. He was also on the last national championship team at Michigan before Vegas Raiders 2023 national title squad ended the 26-year drought. “I mean, life couldn’t get more perfect, could it?” Woodson said of the possibility of Las Vegas drafting McCarthy when he joined “Mad Dog Sports Radio” last Wednesday.
McCarthy led the Wolverines to a third consecutive Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff berth last season, starting all 15 of their games. Michigan overcame adversity to win the national title, finishing with a 15-0 record, after missing out on the national championship game the two years before. “I have a ton of respect for J.J. McCarthy and the way he led that Michigan Wolverines team last year,” stated Woodson. He would need some time to get used to it. The Oakland Raiders selected Woodson with the fourth overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. He played two stints for the franchise, 11 seasons in total. The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
