Legendary Denver Broncos and Florida State Seminoles quarterback Steve Tensi passed away at 81-years-old Friday. Tensi belongs to the Florida State Athletics Hall of Fame as well as the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame. He was important to the Broncos’ early days in the NFL.

Steve Tensi, a Denver Broncos legend, had a significant role in the team’s early years in the newly combined National Football League. Although the NFL has been established since 1920, its current form didn’t begin until 1970.

The NFL split into two conferences for the first time, with two teams participating in the regular season in 1970. During that season, Steve Tensi became the first quarterback in the NFL to pass for a touchdown for the Denver Broncos.

Tensi, who was acquired in a trade from the  only played for the Broncos for four years before he was out of the league due to injuries. Despite his short time with the league and the Broncos as a whole, Tensi solidified himself as one of the most important quarterbacks in the history of the organization.
