Brendan Rodgers, the manager of Celtic, is encouraged by Callum McGregor’s development as he attempts to get his captain healthy again following the international break.

The midfield player, who is recovering from an Achilles injury, will miss his third straight match when Celtic hosts St Johnstone on Saturday. He was not included in the Scotland team for the forthcoming friendlies against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland.

Though Rodgers is optimistic the 30-year-old will be ready for Livingston’s visit on March 30 before they play rival Rangers at Ibrox on April 7, nothing is certain.

“He is feeling good but he needs to get some clearance work in over the next week to 10 days and we will assess it for the Livingston game when we get back,” the manager of Celtic stated.
