BREAKING NEWS: Justin Fields Declare That, He Will Make Steelers Owner/Coach Believe That $283.6million…

Pittsburgh After dealing for the former first-round pick in a trade with the Chicago Bears, Justin Fields is probably the quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers want to use for the foreseeable future. But they’re going to be paying a 10-28 quarterback a top-six contract based on his current market value. Market values are usually used as a benchmark for what a team will have to spend for a certain player, even though they don’t always end up being what the player signs for. The team may occasionally receive a better contract. For instance, linebacker Patrick Queen was signed by the Steelers for an average salary of $13.6 million year, despite the fact that his market worth was $18 million per season.

Sometimes, though, it’s spot on. The New Orleans Saints signed defensive end Chase Young to a $13 million deal when his market value was one year $13 million.

However, the figure is somewhat outrageous for Fields. Fields’ current market value is projected by Spotrac to be $283 million, or $47.1 million a season, over the course of six years. He would then be paid sixth highest among NFL quarterbacks.

If the Steelers chose to pick up his fifth-year option, they’d be paying $25.7 million for his services next season. Instead, it’s more likely they extend him for a cheaper dollar amount, keeping him in Pittsburgh past this season for less than his option cost.

There is very little likelihood that the Steelers will be willing to pay his $47 million market value. It’s also unlikely that any NFL team would pay that much given their restricted trade market prior to moving to Pittsburgh.
