Keith Wyness, the former head of Everton, stated that Nottingham Forest’s appeal against a four-point deduction for violating expenditure regulations is unlikely to succeed.

The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO of Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated that the Midlands club’s arguments won’t be compelling enough to overturn the initial decision in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.

The Independent (15 April) reports that Forest’s appeal against their four-point penalty for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) of the Premier League will be heard the week of April 22.

Wyness previously informed Football Insider on April 18 that Brennan Johnson’s transfer to Tottenham, which occurred too late to be shown in the 2022–23 financial statements, will probably be the main focus of the appeal.

Forest’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) exceeded their allowed level of £61 million by £34.5 million.

After the punishment was implemented last month, the Midlands club voiced their displeasure with it and announced their intention to appeal for a lesser sentence.

Johnson turned down multiple early-window offers before joining Tottenham on deadline day last summer (2023) for a reputed fee of £47.5 million.
