Following a career-defining year
With his best season as a professional behind him, Casey Toohill became a free agent this year.
Toohill played a career-high 495 defensive snaps (45%) with Washington last season. During his time on the field, Toohill recorded five sacks and seven quarterback hits. Considering he had just two quarterback sacks before 2023, Toohill shattered his career-high in that area in 2023.
saw a spike in snaps following the trade of Chase Young
Towards the end of the season, Toohill saw the field quite a bit. Following the November 1st trade of Chase Young by the Commanders, Toohill saw at least 66 percent of the snaps in the following seven weeks. Four of the edge rusher’s sacks came from minimal reps before to the Young trade, but he had significant playing time towards the end of the season.
The Philadelphia Eagles selected Toohill with pick 233 in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Although Toohill was added to the Eagles roster as a rookie, the organization dismissed him in October of that year.
The following day, the Commanders would proceed to assert Toohill’s waivers. Up until today, when he joined the Bills, he stayed in Washington.

Toohill’s athleticism tested off the charts before he entered the draft. At the combine, he had the highest athleticism grade among pass-rushers and a high Relative Athletic Score among EDGE rushers.
