Gafford, who was acquired from Washington in February, gave the Mavericks the victory. With 54 seconds remaining, Gafford dove across the paint to block a lay-up attempt by Mike Conley, giving Dallas a six-point lead. Conversely, Gafford received a lob from Luke Doncic a half-minute later, which he dunk in NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert’s eye.

Dallas takes a 3-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals after winning the game 116-107. On Tuesday, the Mavericks may seal the deal.

In his fifth NBA season, Gafford had career-high offensive averages following his move to Dallas. During the regular season, he averaged 11.2 points (78% shooting), 6.9 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 21.5 minutes per game for the Mavericks.

Gafford attended Arkansas for two seasons after graduating from El Dorado High School before turning pro. In his sophomore season, he averaged 16.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game.

The Dallas Mavericks big man played 29 minutes in Game 3 against Minnesota, which was a postseason best for him. After Dereck Lively left the game in the first half due to a neck injury, coach Jason Kidd was almost forced to run Gafford, who had played 21 minutes in each of the preceding two games.
