West Ham majority owner David Sullivan has paid tribute to Hugh Southon after the sad passing of the fan site founder.

Hugh Southon, the founder of West Ham fan site Claret and Hugh, has passed away at the age of 80.

Hammers ITK Hugh passed away peacefully at home having spent the last few days in the company of his daughter and grandchildren, it has been announced on the site which bears his name.

Hugh was well known in the West Ham fan site fraternity and was close with majority owner David Sullivan as well as former co-owner David Gold.

Hughie’ as he liked to be called, was a former newspaper journalist and served as the ghostwriter for West Ham royalty Bobby Moore.

It was during his time on newspapers – and a mutual love for horse racing – which saw him strike up a relationship with Sullivan.

The pair remained in regular contact.

Now Sullivan has paid tribute to Hugh Southon after the sad passing of the West Ham fan site co-founder.
