BREAKING NEWS:Hyeongyu Oh’s Celtic future after Adam Idah impact

The arrival of Adam Idah at Celtic and his impact on the team has been really encouraging over the past couple of months.

With five goals and one assist in eight appearances so far, it would be very difficult to argue against if anyone suggested that the on-loan Norwich man’s goals have saved our league campaign.

Idah’s impact has been as such that Kyogo Furuhashi has been relegated to the Celtic bench. However, after the Japanese international striker’s goal on Sunday, and Idah failing to make an impact against Livingston, that could all change when St Johnstone comes to Celtic Park on Saturday.

But I digress. With the striker position being treated like a revolving door between the two, where exactly does that leave Hyeongyu Oh?

The South Korean has been left out in the cold and has failed to make the last two Celtic matchday squads. And now left out of the international fold, it’s not been a good season for the 22-year-old.

With Idah and Kyogo now hitting the back of the net, does Oh still have a future at Celtic now that he has dropped out of the picture?

Three stats that show Celtic should not give up on Hyeongyu Oh

The South Korean has struggled to get regular gametime and nail down a starting spot ever since he joined the club back in 2022.

But to be fair to him, he was trying to oust Kyogo who has been on fire for the club. But now he is competing with with two on-form strikers Oh’s chances of getting minutes on the park have diminished even further now.

However, Celtic should not give up on him just yet because even with the lack of minutes he has had, Oh is still ranking higher than Kyogo and Idah on three important attacking stats.

We can also take into account that he is Celtic’s 5th top goalscorer (without penalties) which shows that with the limited minutes he is getting, Oh is still contributing a lot to Brendan Rodgers‘ team.

Now I am not saying that the South Korean is the answer to all our striking problems at the club. Far from it. All I’m simply suggesting is that he should not be forgotten about or discarded just because of Adam Idah’s short-term impact.
