Celtic have risen to the Scottish Premiership summit after defeating St Johnstone in convincing fashion at Parkhead last weekend.

Goals from Kyogo Furuhashi, Nicolas Kuhn and James Forrest helped to settle the affair before Connor Smith pulled back a consolation for the visitors in the 81st minute.

“Sometimes, on the right-hand side, he should trust himself more. It’s quite bizarre because he’s on his right-hand side. I think sometimes he goes across to young Scales or whatever, the two of them playing together do that.

 

“On Saturday, he was progressive, passing into the middle of the pitch; I thought that’s what helped Celtic because he used the ball quickly forward and Celtic had a lot of attacks. Whereas, sometimes, they go back the way.”

 

Welsh did look like a man keen to nail down a place in the starting line-up last Saturday; however, the security that Carter-Vickers offered beside him proved to be invaluable on the day.

 

The United States international is a cut above and is one player who you would immediately single out as a key component of Rodgers’ tactical framework.

 

Keeping the Southend-born man fit and able to step onto the pitch will allow those around him to flourish as the Bhoys continue to hit their stride.
