The Celtic manager is facing consequences from the SFA as a result of his remarks. Later this month, there will be a hearing to decide whether or not he will be subject to a touchline ban.

But Rodgers hasn’t changed his mind from his initial snap judgment and offered an explanation for why he yelled at Beaton and why he has a “bigger worry” than the referees’ identities.

The manager of the Bhoys stated [Daily Record, 09/03 print edition, page 66]: “John has officiated games in which he has excelled. Therefore, I don’t find that objectionable. That was my perspective on that particular game, which is what I’m talking about. It has nothing else to do with it. Let’s concentrate on the football game and making wise choices.

“Everyone is responsible. There is no doubt that he was in the VAR. Thus, it’s not a secret; I haven’t made any reference of anyone who would have remained anonymous. My main argument was that the person who examined it had that experience. John has been a referee for major games for a long time. Therefore, I wasn’t criticizing John for having his name out there.

“It was more, ‘This is a top referee managing the game and supposedly a top referee in VAR, under no pressure.’ But they still got it wrong. That’s the bigger worry for me. That it was two of your top referees.
