James Pierre will join the Washington Commanders after leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to his agent Toney Scott and YMAPAA Sports’ Adie von Gontard. No financial information has been released at this time.

Pierre, who signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent coming out of Florida Atlantic in 2020, has appeared in 66 games – six of which were starts – over four seasons in Pittsburgh. He accounted for 94 total tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defended.

Pierre has played primarily as a special teamer during his time with the Steelers. He accounted for 936 special teams snaps and 727 defensive snaps.

Although Joey Porter Jr., Donte Jackson, Levi Wallace, and other players were ahead of him, he had little chance of breaking through to get meaningful playing time. Nevertheless, he was still a vital reserve option for the Steelers.
