Jamie Carragher makes new Leeds United promotion prediction live on Sky Sports

Jamie Carragher believes Leeds United will earn promotion back to the Premier League this season following their relegation last year.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football on 4 March, the pundit said he expects each of the Whites, Leicester City and Southampton to achieve an immediate return to the top flight.

Despite admitting that Luton Town have been “absolutely fantastic” during this campaign, he’s predicted them to go down alongside fellow promoted sides Sheffield United and Burnley.

“In all honesty, I think Luton have been absolutely fantastic this season because I feared that Luton would be doing exactly what Sheffield United and Burnley are doing,” said Carragher.

“It’s almost felt like, for the majority of the season, we’ve had three Championship clubs in the Premier League and the Championship has got three Premier League clubs.

There is no doubt that Leeds are currently well-set in their bid to make an instant return back to the Premier League this season.

They had been in exceptional form before the draw with Huddersfield Town on 2 March, but their winning streak was always going to come to an end at some point.

While it looked as though Leicester and Ipswich Town were running away with promotion in the early months of the campaign, things have got a lot tighter at the top since the turn of the year.

The problem for the promoted sides in the Premer League this year is that none of them have had the financial power to improve their squads significantly.

While Luton have put in some strong performances, they are still adrift in the relegation zone and look likely to be heading back down, with the Whites hoping to take their place in the top flight next season.
