Callum McGregor, the captain of Celtic, may miss Scotland’s friendlies later this month against the Netherlands and Northern Ireland, according to Brendan Rodgers.

Due to an issue with his Achilles/calf area, the key midfield player left the game at halftime during Wednesday’s 7-1 victory over Dundee. On Sunday, he watched from the stands as his team lost 2-0 to Hearts.

Following the game at Tynecastle, Rodgers stated, “He will have another scan on Wednesday.”

I don’t think it will be long-term but it may last through to the international break.”

Prior to the international break, Celtic host Livingston in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals next Sunday and then have league matches against the Lions and St Johnstone.

Asked if McGregor could miss Scotland’s pre-European Championship warm-up matches against the Dutch in Amsterdam on March 22 and then the Northern Irish at Hampden four days later, Rodgers said: “I don’t know, he may well do.

“He has a further scan on Wednesday and then we will get to see where he’s at. If he’s not going to be involved for us he obviously won’t be involved for Scotland.”

Rodgers, whose side remain two points behind Rangers, will be hoping McGregor is available in time for the top-of-the-table showdown at Ibrox on April 7.
