When Roma played Feyenoord in the Europa League, Diego Llorente was stretchered off in the 85th minute.
After spending the night in the hospital, Diego Llorente has been cleared to go
home. The Leeds United loanee began Thursday night’s Europa League
knockout match between Roma and Feyenoord, but he was forced to leave
the pitch on a stretcher after suffering a serious head injury.
After being treated on the field following his contact with Feyenoord’s Ayase Ueda,
the center defender went down to the deck. Evan Ndicka finally replaced him
in the 85th minute, and he was then transported to a nearby hospital. After
undergoing several tests and scans at the Villa Stuart facility, Llorente is said to be
free of any serious injuries, based on reports from Italy.
He was therefore permitted to leave the hospital after his condition improved
over night. Of course, it is still unclear how he will fare, but it looks like he will
need to miss some time to rest after the head trauma. The injury happened
during the 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico, where Roma won on penalties
to advance to play Brighton & Hove Albion in the round of 16.
This season, Llorente—who is currently in his second stint on loan at Roma—has
been a vital player for Roma. Furthermore, under Daniele De Rossi, he
has made 30 appearances overall, 28 of which have been starts, despite not
starting Roma’s previous two Serie A matches
The defender is scheduled to return to Thorp Arch for the start of preseason
training. He currently has two seasons remaining on his Leeds United deal. But
with the rumored transfer interest from Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain,
current rumors imply Roma is eager to extend his loan in the Italian city. Of
course, Rasmus Kristensen, another Leeds loanee, is also in Rome; yet,
despite making frequent appearances in Serie A, Llorente has not been selected for the team’s Europa League roster.
