JUST IN: Leeds united new signing annouces arrival with an important contribution to the team.
Connor Roberts really announced his arrival as a Leeds United player against Leicester City last night.
Roberts, who joined from Burnley, was substituted off the bench for the fourth
straight game, but he had a big part in Leeds’ amazing comeback triumph at Elland Road.
Roberts was the first to seize a loose ball in the Leicester area and then drive
home an equalizing goal, just as Leeds appeared to have run out of ideas.
His goal provided the impetus behind Leeds’ remarkable victory over the
Championship’s front-runners, and Leicester collapsed under the pressure
following their goal, according to Enzo Maresca’s own admission.
Given how the game played out, Leeds could have been forgiven for maybe
settling for a draw, but Roberts had other ideas, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue.
Roberts character shown after first Leeds goal
Donnohue says that as soon as Roberts found the back of the net, he told his
teammates, “let’s go again,” because he wanted to go all out and win the game.
When Leeds was searching for a right-back to join the team in January, Daniel
Farke frequently stated that it was crucial to find the perfect player for the group.
They appear to have found that in Roberts, who is also an excellent right-
back at this level. With his track record for Burnley the previous season, it is not surprising to see him contributing goals.
Roberts demonstrated tonight what he meant when he said in his first interview
as a Leeds player: he is the kind of player that would flourish under playing for the Whites.
Not only was his goal a huge event that evening, but it might also prove to be
very important at the end of the season in the competition for automatic promotion.
