JUST IN: Mark Murphy, CEO of the Green Bay Packers, announced that he will fire Matt Lafleur. He remains…
About a week before the 2024 NFL Draft, new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley of the Green Bay Packers met with Packers owner Larry McCarren to talk about his team’s roster, philosophy, and
defensive scheme. As an NFL defensive coordinator, Hafley has finally been able to coach up his team firsthand with organized team activities already under way, though we still don’t know exactly what to
expect on Sundays this season.
The statement that Hafley thinks the linebacker unit has depth is among the more unexpected ones from this interview. Despite the fact that they are unlikely to use a first-round pick at either position because
of the quality of this year’s draft class, most fans believe that safety and linebacker are the team’s two biggest need areas.
Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, and Eric Wilson are the current starting linebackers for the Packers in a 4-3 base, which should be used more often than Joe Barry’s 3-4 base because they will have greater
speed on the field. Until the end of the 2023 season, McDuffie was a part-time starter who was mostly used as an injury replacement for De’Vondre Campbell. Wilson, on the other hand, has primarily played
for the Packers on special teams and as a reserve.
