JUST IN: What the hammers gaffer had to say about Brentford’s star man has attracted comments
Ivan Toney, a striker for Brentford, has received praise from West Ham manager
David Moyes, who said that his skill as a player much transcends any dubious
methods he may employ. In just six games since his return from an eight-
month betting suspension, Toney has already scored four goals.
In his first game back, he made a commotion by kicking the ball and the
referee’s foam before beating Nottingham Forest with a free kick.
However, Moyes stated: “I think he’s someone who’s always thinking about the football, considering the moments.”
“As a football player, he’s got an awful lot of good things,” he continued. His
finishing and style of play are undoubtedly cool, and he also has a
physical component. Importantly, though, he occasionally possesses a very sharp football mind.”
Regarding Toney’s foam-moving incident, Moyes added, “You’d have been
annoyed if it had happened to you when he moved the foam, whether that was
intelligent or a bit of whatever you want to call it.”
Brentford is a team that West Ham has lost all five of their Premier League
encounters with, and they need to win to snap their eight-game losing streak. In
his compliments, Moyes said of Brentford, “They can play, they can be
direct, they’re an exceptional team at set-pieces.”
“A lot of their guys, in my opinion, are maximized. They have a plan in place for
the kind of players they hope to sign and the standards they have set
“They undoubtedly don’t have the same resources as other teams, but they
nevertheless search for players who fit their strategy. Fair enough, they’ve been
doing it extremely well for a number of seasons now.”
