Leeds United: 49ers make American-style tickets move at Elland Road

Dan Plumley has insisted that a new ticket scheme implemented by the 49ers Enterprises at Leeds United is fair.

It has been confirmed that fans with season tickets who do not attend at least 80% of matches from 2024-25 onwards are at risk of losing their spots at Elland Road.

The football finance expert admitted that it is fair if there is a waiting list behind that plan, with an American-style angle to the 49ers’ plans.

“I think that’s fair assuming you have a waiting list behind,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“It’s got to play out that way because the reason you would do some of those things is you’ve got people who are waiting who could take those spots and fill the stadium and are then likely to spend money in and around.

“You’ve got that trade-off there, my assumption there would be if you’re going to put a policy like this forward, you’ve got a waiting list because if you haven’t, the other side of the question is, who cares if they are paying the money and not coming and you’re not going to fill that stadium anyway.

“There will be some financial considerations beneath that, I think it is linked to the ownership structure and you can see a little bit of their style in that and we know tickets in American sports are very hard to come by in some instances and are charged at a premium.

“Logic probably dictates if you’re going to put a policy like that forward then you’re assuming there is a waiting list there and if there is, I think there is some fairness in that.”

49ers development at Leeds United and Elland Road

Despite being in the here and now in the thick of the Championship promotion race, Paraag Marathe and the 49ers also have one big eye on the future.

Getting back to the Premier League could kickstart massive plans to take America by storm and also expand Elland Road to avoid problems such as this one.

With 10 games to go, hopefully, we can grab one of those top two spots.
