Leeds United could unleash new combination the writing is on the wall for vs Stoke

Leeds United host Steven Schumacher’s Stoke City at Elland Road in the Championship on Tuesday night and here are five things to look out for around the match

Leeds United may have seen the winning record come to an end at nine matches, but the unbeaten run continues. The Whites can extend that streak to 11 matches by avoiding defeat to Stoke City this evening.

The last time United put together an unbeaten league run that long, Marcelo Bielsa was overseeing the drive to the 2019/20 title. Leeds went 11 without defeat in the league between October, when Kalvin Phillips scored the winner in the centenary game, and December, when they chucked away a 3-0 lead at home to Cardiff City, in that campaign.

The right-back and midfield dilemmas

After seeing the winning streak end with a draw at Huddersfield Town, Daniel Farke is unlikely to see too many reasons for ripping up what has been an outstanding unit through 2024. He will be keen to avoid overreacting to two dropped points when there are several options at his disposal for changes.

Glen Kamara was off his best despite being rested in midweek at Chelsea. With Connor Roberts impressing from the bench and Archie Gray at his best in the middle, that’s one switch-around that could be on the agenda.

Byram’s first league start since New Year’s Day?

Farke was happy to confirm Sam Byram had been in full training for around 10 days going into tonight’s game. With him now ready for more minutes after a couple of watching briefs from the bench, the 30-year-old seems primed for a first league start since New Year’s Day.

The news Junior Firpo, who has played a lot of football in Byram and Jamie Shackleton’s absences, came away from Saturday’s draw with a calf knock also seems to pave the way for Byram’s return.
