Leeds United man in line for new contract and ‘huge’ pay hike

Leeds United will make it a priority to secure Daniel Farke to a bumper new contract at the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.

The 47-year-old signed a four-year contract when he took over last summer that includes a mammoth promotion bonus.

Farke will also be offered an extension and what sources say will be a “huge” pay rise should the team succeed in going straight back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Indeed, the German has made such a strong impression on Leeds’ US-based owners since his appointment that he could land a new deal even if the club miss out on promotion.

Leeds’ bid to secure a club-record 10 straight league wins came to an end on Saturday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Huddersfield.

That means they start the week third place in the Championship and two points outside of the automatic promotion spots.

Nevertheless, Leeds’ haul of 73 points from 35 league matches is hugely impressive and gives a points per game average of 2.09 in the competition.

By contrast, his points-per-game average at Norwich City, who he twice took to promotion during his four-and-a-half year spell was 1.50.

The Whites’ strong form comes despite the loss of no less than 20 first-team players last summer, with most of their best players leaving either permanently or on loan.

Farke’ side have benefitted from Premier League parachute payments just like two of their three main Championship promotion rivals Leicester City and Southampton.
