Leeds United: Official Archie Gray decision announced

Archie Gray has seen his effort against Leicester City on 23 February now been changed to an own goal by the dubious goals panel, Leeds United have confirmed.

The 17-year-old celebrated putting the Whites ahead in the 83rd minute in the ultimate 3-1 victory but it has now been decided that it was actually an own goal from Foxes defender Wout Faes.

Connor Roberts had levelled the scores not long before and Patrick Bamford scored a third in injury time.

How important is Archie Gray to Leeds United?

Although Gray has been stripped of the important strike, with Faes redirecting the ball past Mads Hermansen, the incredible scenes at Elland Road will never be taken away from the lifelong Leeds fan.

The teenager has been a superb addition to the Leeds starting XI this season despite being out of his natural midfield position and deployed at full-back by Farke.

Gray has displaced Sam Byram, Jamie Shackleton and Djed Spence before Leeds ended his loan spell from Tottenham Hotspur, and it seems he will remain in the position for the foreseeable future.

Due to the midfield arsenal of Glen Kamara, Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, it has been difficult to place Gray in his normal position, but the FA Cup clash with Chelsea gave him the perfect opportunity to prove just how brilliant he is in the middle of the park.

Having started 31 of Leeds’ 35 league matches so far this campaign, Farke has had no choice but to force Gray into the starting XI. The Whites are a much better team with the teenage sensation in the lineup.
