Leeds United: Sky pundit slams ‘dreadful’ Wilfried Gnonto for what he did after

Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto has been destroyed live on air by Andy Hinchcliffe for a “dreadful” moment in the first half of the Whites’ clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Daniel Farke’s side made it back-to-back victories in the Championship with an excellent 2-0 win at Hillsborough on Friday (8 March) thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford and Gnonto on either side of halftime.

Gnonto was preferred over Dan James to start on the right but had a slow start to the game and it was his overhit pass that was meant for Archie Gray which caught the attention of Sky Sports pundit Hinchcliffe.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (8 March, 20:17) he said: “Just a little heavy? That was a dreadful pass. That’s a simple pass to make inside Gassama just into the path of Archie Gray.

“Just play a considered ball, you can see from his reaction. He should be doing a lot better with that.”

Will Leeds United sell Wilfried Gnonto during the summer transfer window?

Gnonto has been a divisive figure throughout his time at Elland Road. While his first season in a White shirt was excellent in the Premier League, he had a slow start in the Championship having tried to move on in the summer

The Italian winger has improved immensely in the last few weeks, however, particularly away from home where he has been a real force in front of goal. But the start of his display at Hillsborough on Friday night was incredibly sloppy.

His pass into Gray was massively overhit and while Hinchcliffe’s decision to label it “dreadful” may have been a bit over the top, it was a waste of an excellent opportunity as the Whites broke well down the left flank.

Gnonto made up for it with a number of excellent defensive interventions and then managed to score an excellent goal to double the Whites’ lead. If the 20-year-old continues to impress, he’ll play in the Premier League either with or without Leeds.
