Leeds United vs Stoke City: Daniel Farke must hook Patrick Bamford at half-time, he’s been shocking

Daniel Farke must substitute Patrick Bamford at half-time of the Championship clash between Leeds United and Stoke after a poor first-half display.

The senior striker was given yet another start for the Whites after his goal at the weekend earned the team a vital point against ten-man Huddersfield with Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt all named as substitutes.

Daniel James’ deflected strike gave the team the lead just after the half-hour mark after a dominant performance, but the former England international Bamford, who has scored seven goals in 27 appearances this season, failed to turn up to really make the shirt his own at Elland Road.

Time for Mateo Joseph to get a chance for Leeds United?

Bamford struggled with limited touches of the ball – managing just 23 in the first half, the least of any player in a Leeds shirt according to SofaScore.

He also managed just one shot on target, from a tough angle inside the penalty area and completed only 14 of 17 pass attempts. His best chance came late in the half after a great free-kick routine, but he was slow to turn and shoot and in the end his effort was blocked.

For a team that has dominated the ball for the vast majority of the half, that isn’t enough end product from the player who is supposed to be leading the line.

Joel Piroe has had a fairly solid debut season at the club since joining from Swansea but his form has gone off the boil in recent times, while Joe Gelhardt has never really been afforded an opportunity regularly.

But Joseph is raring to go, fresh off a brace in the FA Cup against a strong Chelsea team at Stamford Bridge and many believe he is the future of the club.

In a game like this one, where Leeds need a clinical finisher up top and someone with more energy to make runs and disorganise a defence the England youth international deserves the chance to stake his claim for the shirt on a more regular basis.
