Marinakis must now ditch one Nottingham Forest figure after alarming claim from PSR report – opinion
It seemed when Nottingham Forest appointed Dane Murphy as the club’s
chief executive in 2021 that Ioannis Vrentzos would take a backseat at the City Ground.
However, it seems that he still has more pies in more places within the club than
some would want him to after the club disclosed the findings of their PSR investigation.
The study makes repeated mention of Vrentzos, and it reveals that, ultimately,
a single, grave mistake on his part might have lost Forest far more than four points.
Evangelos Marinakis must stop using Vrentzos at Forest
It seems that some Forest supporters have had their eyes opened to the true
nature of Vrentzos’s role at the team. It appears from the report that Marinakis
has given him the go-ahead on certain transfer-related matters.
For supporters of Forest, that is a very unsettling idea. Vrentzos was heavily
involved when the team was middling in the Championship’s midtable and signing a lot of busts.
Obviously, Vrentzos and Marinakis will bring up some of the success stories
from Forest’s second-tier hiring. But just because there’s one sunny day doesn’t imply summer is here!
The important detail from the PSR investigation is that, according to
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Peter Blackburn, Vrentzos was the one
assigned to sell Brennen Johnson.
That shouldn’t have been hard considering that he scored eight Premier
League goals the previous season, but Marinakis’ dependable lieutenant nearly made an expensive error.
