When Sunderland’s new permanent manager takes over in the summer, Mike Dodds, who is now in charge of the first team, will offer one very important piece of advise to him or her: be sincere and

truthful with the fans.

This season, Dodds has served as temporary head coach twice. He claims to have learned that at a team the magnitude of Sunderland, every statement made by the manager is closely watched.

But as long as you stay loyal to who you are, he argues, that shouldn’t be an issue.

Sunderland executives are still evaluating their possibilities for a head coach and interviewing potential candidates before deciding on Michael Beale’s long-term replacement in the summer.

Dodds will serve as interim manager for the next three games of the season, starting tonight at 3 p.m. when Millwall visits the Stadium of Light. He will thereafter likely be a member of the coaching staff

under the incoming manager.
