Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has named England’s two most important players ahead of this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany.
Speaking on the Overlap, the recently appointed Plymouth Argyle manager said Jordan Pickford and Harry Kane are the Three Lions’ most important players.
Rooney said: “Harry Kane and Jordan Pickford are England’s most important players. Jordan is important to England because Gareth Southgate doesn’t rotate him in the friendly games, so we are yet to see what the other goalkeepers can do.
played with Pickford at Everton, and I was in the England squad when he first came into the team.
“Due to the way that Pickford is, they judge him because he is a bit lively and some of the bits he does in goal.”
Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney, has given his opinions on who is better between Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes.
It is a debate that is as popular as the Lionel Messi-Cristiano Ronaldo rivalry in world football.
Rooney, who lined up alongside all three players, gave his opinion while answering questions on The Overlap.
The new Plymouth Argyle manager broke down each man’s credentials before revealing his pick.
He said: “As an all-rounder, Stevie is the best; he can defend, pass the ball, run, tackle, score goals, and set pieces.
“From a goalscoring point of view, Lamps [Frank Lampard] was the best. Technically he wasn’t at Stevie or Scholesy’s level, but there was no one better at scoring goals from midfield.
“Scholesy, the way he adapted [made him amazing]. I don’t think either of the other two [Gerrard or Lampard] could dictate a game the way he could.
“All were world-class players. Stevie could come to Manchester United and be a top player and do what Scholes could do. But I don’t think Scholes could do what Stevie did at Liverpool.”
