Supercomputer makes Leeds United promotion prediction after Leicester and Ipswich results

Leeds United have more than a 50 percent chance of securing automatic

promotion to the Premier League, according to the latest Supercomputer predictions.

Stats gurus at Opta have ran their latest analysis of the promotion race,

comparing the results to those of just a week ago. The results show the

differences in the title race that just a week of fixtures can make.

According to the Opta Anlyst Supercomputer, Leeds are the second

favourites to secure automatic promotion at the end of the season with

a 56.6 percent chance of finishing in the top two. That chance has however

dropped from 71.6 percent in the last week after the draw at Huddersfield Town.

Leicester City still remain clear favourites with an 87.5 percent chance

of finishing in the top wo places, although that has also dropped from

95.4 percent last week following their shock defeat to QPR on Saturday.

Ipswich, who are currently second, are rated with a 47.6 percent chance, rising

from 38.5 percent after their win against Plymouth Argyle.

Despite Southampton’s late win against Birmingham City, a poor run of form

sees them with an 8.3 percent chance of securing a top-two finish. That is

however almost double the 4.5 percent chance they were rated with last week.

In terms of winning the Championship title, league leaders Leicester still remain

favourites with 64.5 percent. Leeds are rated with a 20.2 percent and Ipswich a

13.9 percent chance of overturning the Foxes’ advantage between now and the end of the season.

The current table sees Leicester on top with 78 points. Ipswich are three points

behind in second, while Leeds are a further two points behind the Tractor

Boys with Southampton three points behind the Whites.

All four teams are in midweek action in fixtures that could have a bearing at the

end of the campaign. Leicester travel to Sunderland, Ipswich host Bristol City,

Leeds host Stoke City while Southampton are at home against Preston on Wednesday night.
