The Philadelphia Eagles star and Houston native reportedly footed funeral expenses for Jarvon Coles, a standout North Shores linebacker killed in a shooting in Humble earlier this month.

North Shore High School senior Jarvon Coles’ life was cut short earlier this month after he was killed in a shooting in Humble. One NFL quarterback stepped up to help Coles’ family following the tragic incident.

Philadelphia Eagles star and Houston native Jalen Hurts reportedly covered the funeral expenses for Coles, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Coles’ grandfather, Braxton, confirmed the report Tuesday.

“[Jalen] is part of this community, and he felt it in his heart like so many others,” Braxton told ABC13 in Houston. “He wanted to relieve us of some of the stress of the tragedy.”

Jarvon’s funeral was held Saturday. Hundreds of Houstonians were in attendance, and March 16 was officially declared “Jarvon Coles Day” by Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee. Hurts was not able to attend the service, though he did offer words of condolences, noting “Jarvon was someone who was a rising star in our community.”
