West Ham close in on signing manchester united super star this summer
West Ham are reportedly closing in on a move for Manchester United and
England centre-back Harry Maguire and have agreed a fee with the Red Devils for
the defender
West Ham have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Manchester
United for the transfer of Harry Maguire.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford
under Erik ten Hag and has been made available in the transfer window, with
the Hammers showing interest throughout the summer.
Now the two clubs have agreed on a £30million fee with United for the
defender, according to the Athletic. The verbal agreement between the two clubs
is still subject to final, key points on deal structure, while West Ham are confident
they can agree to personal terms with Maguire and his camp.
After moving to Manchester United for £80 million from Leicester City in 2019,
Maguire is still the most expensive defender in history; but, in his four
seasons there, the 30-year-old has fallen short of expectations.
The defender was stripped of the United captaincy earlier this summer after
making just eight starts in the Premier League last season, with ten Hag
preferring Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his first-choice centre-backs.
Maguire is one of the fringe players the Red Devils are looking to let go of since
they no longer have a future with the team. They have signed three players
this summer: Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, and Mason Mount
West Ham meanwhile banked £105million from the sale of Declan Rice
to Arsenal and are now starting to see some of that cash being spent on new
signings. Ajax and Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez is expected to join for
around £35million this week, with Maguire potentially the next through the
door after him.
The Hammers get their Premier League campaign underway with a trip to the
Vitality Stadium to face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday
